Pre and Post-operative Lymphatic Drainage
Radiance Wellness Bien-Être specializes in providing therapeutic bodywork that enhances your recovery journey, particularly for those undergoing surgical procedures.
What is Lymphatic Drainage?
Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle, non-invasive massage technique designed to stimulate the lymphatic system. This system plays a key role in your body’s immune response and fluid balance. Promoting lymph flow can help reduce swelling, enhance circulation, and support your body’s natural healing processes.
Pre-operative Lymphatic Drainage
Preparing for surgery can be a stressful experience, both physically and emotionally. My pre-operative lymphatic drainage sessions focus on reducing anxiety, optimizing your body’s lymphatic function, and helping to minimize post-surgery complications. By enhancing your lymphatic flow prior to your procedure, you may experience a smoother recovery.
When to Book: Ideally, 1–2 sessions in the week leading up to your procedure.
Post-operative Lymphatic Drainage
After surgery, your body needs gentle and specialized care to manage swelling, fluid buildup, and tension. Post-operative lymphatic drainage is a safe, soothing technique that can significantly support your recovery.
Is it painful?
Not at all. These sessions are extremely gentle and relaxing. Many clients are surprised by how light the touch is—and how effective it feels. You won’t experience any deep pressure or discomfort.
When can I start?
Every surgery is different, but in general:
-
Once you can safely travel to and from the clinic on your own. Please do not come in until you feel steady, mobile, and ready for the appointment experience.
-
Most clients begin sessions 2–3 weeks after their surgery, once the body has had time for initial healing.
-
If you’re wearing compression garments, make sure you’re able to remove and put them back on by yourself comfortably.
-
If you’ve had surgical drains, it's ideal to wait until they’ve been removed.
-
You must have your surgeon’s permission before booking any post-operative lymphatic drainage within the first 6 weeks after an aesthetic procedure.
How often should I come?
-
For most post-operative clients, I recommend 1–2 sessions per week, depending on your body’s needs and healing process.
-
After the acute phase of recovery, we can reduce frequency while still supporting your long-term healing and scar tissue management.
Benefits of Lymphatic Drainage After Surgery:
-
Reduced Swelling: After surgery, excess fluid can accumulate in the surgical area. Lymphatic drainage helps to facilitate the removal of this fluid, significantly reducing swelling and promoting a healthier healing environment.
-
Pain Relief: Many patients experience discomfort after surgery. The gentle techniques used in lymphatic drainage can help to alleviate pain and provide a soothing effect on the body.
-
Enhanced Circulation: Improved lymphatic flow enhances blood circulation, which is essential for delivering nutrients and oxygen to the affected tissues. This can lead to quicker recovery times.
-
Immune System Support: Post-surgery, your immune system may be weakened. Lymphatic drainage helps to stimulate the immune response, aiding in the body's natural healing processes and helping to prevent infections.
-
Improved Scar Healing: Lymphatic drainage can support the healing of scars by improving circulation and reducing tissue tension, leading to better overall aesthetics and mobility in the area.
